The Town of Beloit’s scenic location and beauty and convenience to metropolitan areas are among its most attractive assets. It is adjacent to the City of Beloit, with a greater-area population of more than 110,000. Interstates 43 and 90 intersect in Beloit, placing the area within an easy drive to the metropolitan areas of Chicago, Rockford, Milwaukee and Madison.

Required Permits and Inspections

Various permits will likely be required in the construction of a new home. Your contractor will likely be aware of these and navigate the paperwork for you. In an effort to be as transparent as possible we have calculated the permit costs for an average newly constructed home of 1,8oo square feet with a 2 car garage. Please view the chart below:

Recommended Process

The following steps are recommended for the greatest ease and speed in building your home:

  1. Choose to build your home on one of the gorgeous lots available in one of the Town’s desirable Subdivisions.
  2. Contact your realtor or the Town Hall to gain information on the Subdivision’s restrictive covenants and zoning to ensure your home plans are feasible.
  3. Close on your lot and contact the Building Inspector to begin the review of your plans.
  4. Have your contractor(s) coordinate their work and necessary permits and corresponding inspections through the Building Inspector.
  5. After work is completed, the Building Inspector will perform a final inspection and issue your Occupancy Permit.
  6. Move in to your new home!

Way Beyond Money

Beloit is a proud member community of the Beloit Turner School District. Powers Elementary serves early grades, (Early Childhood, 4K through 2nd grade), Garden Prairie Intermediate serves grades 3 through 5, and the middle school and high school have a shared main campus. The School District of Beloit has six elementary, (4K through 3rd grade), four intermediate, (4th grade through 8th grade), and one high school, with alternative programming and charter schools. One of the premiere institutions in the area is Beloit College, located just a block from downtown in the City of Beloit. Blackhawk Technical College is a 5-10 minute drive from most areas in the Town and offers many technical training programs.

Everyday life in our Town is easier, more fun and more comfortable because of locally provided services. Residents enjoy the added safety and security provided by our own Police and Fire Departments. Our neighborhoods and parks are kept in pristine condition by the Roads Department which ensures attractive, well-maintained streets, as well as an array of other valuable and efficient services.

Award-winning healthcare can be accessed throughout the Beloit area. Beloit Health Systems serves the area, and was recently named a 2015 Guardian of Excellence Award winner for outstanding performance in clinical quality. Beloit Health Systems was one of only 17 health systems, out of 1,700 nationwide, to receive this recognition. Other health systems are available in nearby Janesville and Rockford.

Inspection Hours

Building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC inspections are performed by Tim Kienbaum. The Inspector is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by appointment. He can be reached at 608-728-3311 (cell), or Email. Permit applications may be obtained from the Town Hall or from the Town Licenses webpage. Fire inspections are carried out by the Town of Beloit Fire Department and will be coordinated by the Building Inspector. The applicant is required to schedule all appointments. The Inspector will require full access to the entire property.
